Every year the Student Ambassadors pick a nonprofit to support with the funds earned through the balloon shop. This year it was decided that Student Ambassadors would donate those funds to the Student Government Association’s Food Pantry that was started on campus this year. So if you need a bouquet of balloons for that someone special or just to celebrate that the semester is over come by the Student Activities Office in the Bookstore building and order yours today and help support the SGA’s work in feeding hungry students!!!
For the seventh year in a row, the BRCC Student Ambassadors held a coat drive to collect donations of coats, jackets, sweaters, gloves, hats and scarves. All outerwear collected was donated to the Harrisonburg Salvation Army to assist families in need. Colette Best, Student Ambassadors President helped arrange the collection this year. “As a nontraditional student, I feel the need to teach the younger generations of students on campus that it does not always take money to help others, just a little time and possessions that are no longer useful for us.” The garments were cleaned courtesy of Classic Cleaners of Harrisonburg before finding their way to folks who needed some warmth this winter.
Yearly in the Fall Semester, the ambassadors sponsor a BRCC “UNITY” Day of community services in collaboration with United Way and the organization, United Way, in the Augusta County Area. This will be a day of collaboration within the BRCC family for students, staff, faculty, and administrators to come together for a united cause. Everyone is welcome to participate. For more information, go to the BRCC calendar.
