About the Program
How long does it take a student to complete the program?
The program is two years long. Students begin the program in mid-August each year. Because of course prerequisites, part-time enrollment in the program is not encouraged.
When are classes typically scheduled?
Automotive classes are scheduled Mondays through Thursdays, during daytime hours. Often afternoons and Fridays are left unscheduled so students may take related courses and work.
What do students learn in the program?
Students take courses in engines, vehicle inspection, power trains, shop management, climate control, suspension and braking systems, fuel systems, automotive electricity and electronics, and tune-up and driveability. Students also complete courses in oral and written communication, business mathematics, and first aid/CPR.
How much does the program cost?
The cost of the entire two year program is approximately $10,000*. Tuition and fees account for $8200* with the remaining $1800 allotted for the cost of textbooks. All tools are supplied for students, although they have the opportunity to purchase their own set at a discounted rate.

Are your graduates ASE certified?
Graduates are eligible to take all eight ASE master certification exams. Over 75% of the program’s graduates pass the ASE tests, attesting to the high quality of the BRCC program.
Does the Automotive program have a Cooperative Education option?
Yes, students have the option of enrolling in the Cooperative Education each semester. Students may gain valuable work experience through working a minimum of 10 hours each week at a local service facility.
How much practical experience do students get?
Students perform testing and repair work on late model vehicles using state-of-art equipment in BRCC’s automotive lab, which will accommodate 8 vehicles. Under faculty guidance, students diagnose and repair automotive problems. The program curriculum has a strong emphasis in electronics and computerized engine control systems.
Are there special admission requirements for the program?
Any student who has completed the BRCC college admission process may enter the program. Automotive students are required to have a driver’s license.
