Sandra Couture received a B.A. in Spanish and International Affairs in 1998 from the University of New Hampshire, which included seven months study at the Universidad de Costa Rica in San José. In 2005 she completed her M.A. in Spanish from Simmons College in Boston. Prior to coming to Blue Ridge Community College, she had taught at Portsmouth High School in New Hampshire and at the Boston Center for Adult Education in addition to giving private tutoring. Her professional interests include oral proficiency assessment, language testing, and linguistics. She is currently completing oral proficiency training through the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and Manhattanville College. Her extracurricular activities include dancing, which she has done for most of her life; most recently she trained with a Boston-based salsa dance company, Melaza. She enjoys teaching her students such dances as the merengue, salsa, and bachata.
