Sandra L. Couture received a B.A. in Spanish and International Affairs in 1998 from the University of New Hampshire, which included seven months study at the Universidad de Costa Rica in San José. In 2005 she completed the M.A. program in Spanish from Simmons College in Boston. Prior to coming to Blue Ridge Community College, she had taught the language at Portsmouth High School in New Hampshire and at the Boston Center for Adult Education. Her professional interests include oral proficiency assessment, language testing, and linguistics. She has recently completed 3 graduate credits of oral proficiency assessment training through the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and Manhattanville College.  In her spare time she enjoys dancing, which she has done for most of her life.  Her dance training includes ballet, tap, pointe and salsa. She enjoys teaching her students some of the latin dances such as the merengue, salsa, and bachata.
