Spanish 101 Online
Welcome to online Spanish 101 at Blue Ridge Community College. On this page and on the links above, you will find all the information you will need before deciding to take Spanish 101 online.
As a general guideline, complete newcomers to Spanish will probably do better in a seat class if you can fit it in your schedule, since in this setting you naturally receive more direction and help. The online section works well if, for example, you’ve had Spanish but it’s been a while since you’ve used it or studied it, or if you’ve been exposed to Spanish but have never had formal study. In addition, if you are not familiar with navigating the internet, in sending/receiving emails, and/or in using basic functions on forums and discussion boards (reading, posting and responding to messages), then the online section is not for you, since all of our communication and assignments will be done this way. If you’re not sure, please review the materials on BRCC’s distance learning site to get a general idea of how distance learning works. If you have questions regarding whether taking this course online is appropriate for you you are welcome to email me at coutures@brcc.edu.
This course uses Blackboard and Myspanishlab to facilitate your learning. You will be reading and listening, recording yourself in various activities, writing, and learning about many of the hispanic (Spanish-speaking) cultures. Some of the main topics include greetings, weather, time, family, and school. You will need certain materials to be able to take the class. See my link above, 101 Online Materials.
