Saturdays are super at Blue Ridge! Beginning in late August, three 12-week youth workshops will be held from 9 am to noon on Saturdays in the BRCC Fine Arts Center, with opportunities slated in November to perform and exhibit new skills.
The Children’s Theatre Workshop for ages 8-15, is a combination of dramatic exercises and rehearsals culminating in a BRCC Fine Arts Center Black Box Theatre performance of Oliver Twist! Sign-ups and auditions for a role on will be held Saturday, Aug. 18 at 9 am. The workshop meets thirteen Saturdays August 18-November 10. Rehearsals and performances will be held the week of November 11-18.
A Pottery Workshop for ages 12-16 will teach participants how to throw cups, bowls and other shapes on the potter’s wheel, and create hand-built pots using coil-building and slab-building techniques. Students will also learn the basics of textures and ways to make different marks, as well as the glazing process. No prior ceramics experience is necessary. The workshop runs August 25-November 10, and concludes with a student exhibition and reception on November 15.
YoungRock – Youth Rock Band Workshop for ages 14-17 will unite young rockers to form bands, learn techniques of rehearsal, song selection, performance, stage presence, and collaboration, and totally ROCK the Shenandoah Valley this fall! Students must have at least one year’s experience on their instrument, and sign-ups are limited to four drummers, four bass guitarists, six guitarists and six vocalists; and other instruments by permission. The class runs August 25-November 10 and a required concert rehearsal will be held Monday, Nov. 12, 7 to 9 pm. Final concert will be Tuesday, Nov 13 at 7 pm.
