BRCC Counselor Wins International Phi Theta Kappa Award

Ann Carter Smith, M.Ed., Counselor and Assistant Professor at Blue Ridge Community College won a 2011 Hallmark Distinguished Advisor Award at the Phi Theta Kappa International Convention held recently in Seattle.
Smith was the only Virginia advisor to win this honor, and one of only 31 recognized internationally.  “I am truly humbled to receive this award,” said Smith. “And I am very proud of our chapter and all that the members have accomplished.” Continue reading

Blue Ridge Community College Hires New VP of Instruction and Student Services

Blue Ridge Community College recently welcomed Dr. Bob Young as Vice President of Instruction and Student Services. Dr. Young comes to BRCC from Frederick Community College in Maryland where he served as the Associate Vice President of Learning and an adjunct math instructor for eight years. During his tenure at Frederick Community College, Dr. Young supervised two diverse academic departments that included career and transfer programs, such as Nursing, Respiratory Care, Computer Science, Accounting, Emergency Management, Culinary Arts, and Physical Education.  Continue reading

BRCC First Theatre Workshop for Youth Holds Auditions January 22-23

Blue Ridge Community College announces an exciting new opportunity for 12- to 15-year-olds to participate in a semester-long workshop that will culminate with a Fine Arts Center Black Box Theatre performance.

The Theatre Workshop for Youth is a 12-week program that includes dramatic exercises as well as rehearsal for a production of The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon, by Don Zolidis.  BRCC Fine Arts Center Program Manager and community theatre veteran Sandi Belcher will lead the Saturday morning workshops and direct the production of this wild, free-form comedy with lots of audience participation and madcap fun, as two narrators and several actors attempt to combine all 209 fairy tales of the Brothers Grimm into one rollicking performance.
