MATH 03 changing to MTE modules in January

Effective January 2012, Math 03 will no longer be offered. Applicants who have not taken Algebra in HS and earned a grade of “C” or better will need to be tested. MTE modules 1-5 will be equal to the old Math 03.

Changes for Special Admission Criteria for Recent High School Graduates

English Requirement: Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) scores of 530+ for both reading and writing, or ACT scores of 22+ for both reading and writing, or BRCC College Preparedness Test (COMPASS) scores of 81 + for reading and 76+ for writing.
Math Requirement: Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) score of 520+, or ACT score of 22+, or VPT Math placement test results showing completion of

MTE 1-5. Students demonstrating completion of MTE 1-5 will be exempt from taking a math course.

Students who have completed a high school algebra course with a grade of “C” or better, but don’t test out of MTE 1-2, must take MTE 1-2 with a strong recommendation for completing MTE 3-4 as well.
Students who have not achieved the high school algebra requirement and test into any MTE 1-5 modules, must complete the modules for which they haven’t demonstrated completion.

IST 114, ITE 115, ITE 119

For the 2012 application cycle, the nursing department will accept all of these courses even if the student had a break in enrollment or the course is over 5 years old. However, for the 2013 application cycle, all three courses will be accepted as long as the course was taken within the last 5 years (so the 5 year technology rule will apply for 2013 applicants).

Nursing Clinical Courses

Students may not enroll in any nursing courses (NUR___) until they are accepted into the clinical portion of the nursing program. This involves a separate application process and is extremely competitive.

ITE 119

Starting with the summer 2011 semester, the ITE-115 requirement has been changed to ITE-119. Anyone who hasn’t taken ITE-115 already should register for the ITE-119.

Math 103/104

Students who do not have a grade of “C” or better in High School Algebra must take Math 03. After three unsuccessful attempts, Math 103/104 is not an acceptable alternative.

The new online nursing information session, which is a requirement for application to the Nursing Program, is available. Even if you have attended an information session in the past, you will be required to complete the updated online version.

Nursing Entrance Test (ATI TEAS TEST)

The computerized TEAS test, a requirement for ALL applicants to the Nursing Program, will be available in the Learning Assistance Center. If you have completed the ATI TEAS test for RN applicants in the past three years prior to the application deadline with scores of 45% or higher on the math and reading sections, you are eligible to apply to the nursing program. However, please note that successful applicants usually achieve scores in the 80-90%. You will need to complete this entrance test by November 18, 2011. Please note that the Learning Assistance Center will be closed for Labor Day on Monday, September 5, 2011. Therefore, no TEAS testing will take place on that day.

Early Bird testing June1-24^th, 2011 Must be in the Learning Assistance Center Monday thru Thursday no later than 12:00PM.

Testing resumes July 18^th and ends on November 18^th.

Early Bird test will be at the 2010 price of $25.00

Effective July 1, 2011 the testing price will increase to $35.00

TEAS book (limited number available in bookstore and when they are gone they will not be able to reorder) $57.25 (when they are gone the only review option will be the package through ATItesting.com)

TEAS review package (book plus 2 online practice tests) $85 (will be $88 effective July 1) purchase at ATItesting.com
