Fine Arts Center

Fine Arts Center

WordPress 2.6 includes new options for placing your images within posts as well as providing captions below the image. Images can be positioned to the right, left, or center of the post.

If the new options do not display properly on your site, your theme needs to be updated.  Contact Cheryl O’Neil at 2377.

Creating Pages

You can create standard Web pages by selecting the Write Page link under the Write option. These pages are static and do not contain blog posts. (Tip: Your page title will be displayed as navigation so choose short titles. ) You can use pages to supplement your blog posts, like the About page WordPress adds in the initial setup, or you create multiple pages and use WordPress to manage a small standard Website.

You can choose to have your default front page (no relation to Microsoft FrontPage :>) either display your latest blog posts or a page you’ve created by clicking on Options, then the Reading tab. Depending on the theme you have chosen for your site, the navigation for your pages will either be text links under a Pages category, or appear as buttons or tabs. (Tip: Look for nav bars, tabs, or buttons in the theme previews under Presentation to see how the different themes support Pages navigation.)

Comments Policy

Because of the serious problems we’ve experienced with spam on public forms, your blog will be created with a default setting that does not allow comments to be posted. If you choose to enable comments for a public blog, for security purposes we ask that you moderate the comments and require comment authors to fill out their name and email before posting.

If you have questions about the security risks of open forums, please contact ICS.

Initial Blog Settings

The first time you access your new blog, you will need to take care of several default items from the WordPress (WP) default installation .

Default Post: WP inserts a dummy post entitled “Welcome World!”. You can click the edit link to edit the text, or click the delete post button at the bottom of the page.

“About” Page: WP also creates a page entitled “About” for you to enter some information about the purpose of the blog, who you are, or whatever else you may wish to tell your readers. Delete or edit the supplied text.

Layout and Interface: The colors and layout of your blog is called a theme and the default WP theme is blue and white. Change the theme by clicking on the Presentation link in the administrative menu and then selecting and clicking a different theme from the sample screenshots. After you select the new theme, there will be a view site link to the right of the selected screenshot to click. To reenter the administrative area after you have viewed the site, click the site administration link in the Meta menu or click any edit link in the page.
