The incumbent will triage animal illness reports reported by animal care staff and researchers, perform physical exams, evaluate health status of ill animals, administer treatments and follow up exams, perform anesthesia in a variety of animal species, monitor patient intra-operative and post-operative. Maintain patient treatment and surgical records and maintain surgical support facilities, as directed by the Center’s veterinarians.   Work with the veterinarians to administer health programs for all species such as programs of routine vaccination, worming, TB testing and rodent health surveillance.Perform technical functions such as venipuncture, euthanasia, specimen collection, physical examination, tattooing.  Maintain all controlled substance records for receiving, dispensing, storing, inventory and usage in a compliance with Drug Enforcement Agency requirements.

Preferred License or Certification:  Must be currently licensed or able to sit and pass Veterinary Technician licensure exam within 6 months of hire

Role and ResponsibilitiesThe Office Assistant will be an hourly, part-time position averaging 20 hours per week. The successful candidate will be responsible for

  • Taking applications for assistance both over the phone and online
  • Conducting detailed telephone interviews with applicants and veterinary staff

Qualifications and Education Requirements

The qualified applicant will have the following skill sets and experience:

  • Must love dogs

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and documentation
  • Post high school education with a minimum of 2 years
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Knowledge of veterinary or medical terms and conditions

  • Employment or Volunteer experience in the non-profit industry
  • Must possess the ability to work unsupervised and under short deadlines
  • Must have reliable transportation and be able to work flexible weekday hours
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time

Preferred Skills

The ideal candidate will have work and/or educational experience in the veterinary or health care fields, as well as work experience in a non-profit setting.   Must be flexible, dedicated to The Mosby Foundation’s mission and able to work under stressful situations with applicants. Must be very detail oriented and organized, as well as able to document detailed information. Prefer an applicant with a Bachelors degree or higher. Applicant must adhere to guidelines and confidentiality of office practices and specific cases. Must be willing to work flexible hours during the week.
